A discussion was held yesterday between the Supervisory Committee on Prompt Legal Action and Deportation of Foreigners Who Enter Myanmar Illegally and the heads of foreign embassies and diplomats in Myanmar.
The meeting
took place at the Arindama Hall of the Myanmar Police Force Headquarters in Nay
Pyi Taw. It was attended by Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Maj-Gen Toe Yi,
who serves as Chairperson of the Supervisory Committee, along with the
committee’s secretary, joint secretaries, and members. Also present were the
heads of foreign embassies and diplomats in Myanmar, as well as chairpersons
and deputy chairpersons of subcommittees from Kayin and Shan states.
Deputy
Minister Maj-Gen Toe Yi explained that Myanmar is actively working to identify
and deport foreign nationals who have entered the country illegally,
particularly those involved in online fraud operations. He emphasised that
these measures are taken following the law, established procedures, and
principles of mutual respect and humanitarian considerations. He also
highlighted ongoing efforts to uncover and apprehend individuals engaged in
online scam operations, including foreign nationals orchestrating these
schemes. Between 1 January 2022 and 22 November 2024, a total of 1,242 foreign
nationals in difficult circumstances were located, assisted, and deported to
their respective countries following official procedures.
An open and
constructive discussion followed between committee members and the heads of
foreign embassies and diplomats. Topics included the challenges of identifying,
assisting, and rescuing foreign nationals, as well as deporting them in line
with official processes. Participants shared ideas and explored potential
solutions to address these challenges more effectively.
