MoI Union Minister attends World Vocational & Technical Education Development Conf in China

A Myanmar delegation, led by Dr Charlie Than, Union Minister for Industry, attended the 2024 World Vocational and Technical Education Development Conference, held in Tianjin from 20 to 22 November.

He met Mr Hui Jing Fung, Chinese Minister of Education, deputy ministers, the mayor of Tianjin, officials from various countries attending the ceremony, officials from educational associations, and entrepreneurs.

In addition, the Union minister met with the principal of Guangxi Economic and Trade Vocational Institute to have a cordial discussion on the submission of proposals for establishing a training school in Myanmar with the assistance of the Tianjin Government of China. They also discussed the publication of Myanmar-translated books for key subjects, such as “Sewing Workers” and “Clothing Designers”, as well as the support provided by the Guangxi Training Institute.

On 21 November, the Union minister and the delegation attended the opening ceremony of the 2024 World Vocational and Technical Education Development Conference. The conference included six simultaneous sessions. During the conference, the Union minister addressed three key areas related to skill development through TVET: the global TVET strategy for skill development and youth development, national TVET policy development and innovative practices at TVET institutions, and collaboration between industry and education sectors to meet the needs of the labour market.

Union Minister Dr Charlie Than then attended a ministerial-level roundtable discussion, which focused on the collaboration between 13 ministries in Myanmar and the private sector to support the development of the TVET sector more broadly.

Next, he attended and inspected the finals and awards ceremony of the World Vocational College Level Skills Competition, where he presented an award to a group of vocational students from Myanmar who won third place.

The Union minister and his team attended the closing ceremony of the conference held on 22 November before visiting Tianjin University of Foreign Studies to meet and greet students attending Myanmar language courses.

In the evening, the Union minister and his team departed from Tianjin Airport and arrived back in Yangon yesterday.
