Five arrested for phone scams

 

Police arrested five male suspects for their suspected involvement in a case of phone scams on 17 November.

The police received a report where the people cheated money via phone and conducted an investigation.

On 17 November evening, the police apprehended Thet Paing (aka) Thet Khine(aka) Zaw Thet Paing, Soe Yazar Hein (aka) Aung Htike (aka) Lin Myat San (aka) Ko Lin, Bo Bo Lin, Aung Zarni Phyo, Soe Thiha (aka) Phyo Thiha Zaw, on Magway-Yangon Nanhtike Tawwin bus at Zero Mile Tollgate, together with six mobile phones, five citizenship scrutiny cards, one KBZ Bank MPU, one AYA Bank MPU, one YOMA Bank MPU, K280,000, one diamond ring and one gold bracelet.

Suspect Thet Paing (aka) Thet Khine (aka) Zaw Thet Paing said he lived at the dormitory in Hlinethaya (East), and worked at Aung Mingalar highway terminal. He made friends with U Hein Khant and served as a medium, and moved to Jasmine Palace Hotel and lived together with Soe Yazar Hein (aka) Aung Htike (aka) Lin Myat San (aka) Ko Lin, Bo Bo Tun, Aung Zarni Phyo and Soe Thiha (aka) Phyo Thiha Zaw. They used CSCs bearing the names of Aung Htike and Hnin Maung Maung Lwin and opened KBZ Pay and Wave Pay accounts to cheat money by calling phone numbers starting with 09 5.

In August 2024, they cheated K700,000, K15.7 million in September, K5 million in October, K7.7 million, and K2.5 million in November, totalling K31.6 million.

According to the investigation, Thet Paing (aka) Thet Khine (aka) Zaw Thet Paing led the processes of phone scams disguising himself as another person, and Soe Yazar Hein (aka) Aung Htike (aka) Lin Myat San (aka) Ko Lin, Bo Bo Tun, Aung Zarni Phyo and Soe Thiha (aka) Phyo Thiha Zaw collected phone numbers to cheat and shared the money.

Five suspects including Thet Paing (aka) Thet Khine (aka) Zaw Thet Paing were taken action under Penal Code sections 420/468/471/419 and 114 at Sanchaung Myoma Police Station.
