Rakhine govt hosts alms ceremony for 600 monks, nuns at Lokananda

A ceremony to donate food and offerings for 600 monks and nuns was held at the Lokananda Pagoda platform in Sittway on 16 October under the supervision of the Rakhine State government, according to the state government.

Members of the government headed by the chief minister and officials attended the event.

The alms donation ceremony for 500 monks and 100 nuns was held at 7 am at the Lokananda Pagoda platform in Sittway.

Alms include 287 rice bags and materials worth more than K70 million and K8.7 million in cash. A water-pouring session for sharing meritorious deeds followed up the ceremony.

Thadingyut holiday is an auspicious occasion when Myanmar Buddhists regularly hold religious and cultural celebrations such as pagoda festivals, alms donations, offering light candles, visiting monasteries for donations, and paying homage to older people.
