ON the first waning of Thadingyut, the public flocked to pagodas and stupas across various regions and states for worship and recreation.
People gathered at prominent pagodas, stupas, and Buddha statues across regions and states to observe religious gatherings, such as observing precepts, reciting Paritta sermons, and performing meritorious deeds like alms-offering and charity. Additionally, parks and recreational sites were bustling with people enjoying the holiday.
Sacred locations like the Maravijaya Buddha Image and Uppatasanti Pagoda in Nay Pyi Taw, the revered Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon, and the Maha Muni Buddha Image in Mandalay saw a high volume of devotees and worshippers offering oil lamps and participating in ritual observances. Older people in various regions were also honoured through traditional ceremonies that included offering charity meals and healthcare services. Cultural performances featuring Myanmar’s traditional dance were held in alignment with the customs and traditions of the Thadingyut Festival.
Across cities and towns, including Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Mandalay, and the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway and town roads were busy with pilgrims and holiday travellers. Parks and recreational sites in these regions were exceptionally crowded, with visitors taking advantage of the Thadingyut holiday to relax.
In addition, the office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) and public places areas like the Nay Pyi Taw Water Fountain Garden were adorned with colourful lights and decorations, drawing throngs of visitors. Across regions and states, oil lamp lighting ceremonies and vibrant displays of lanterns created festive vibes. People gathered to release brightly coloured lanterns, bringing joy to the Thadingyut celebration.
