Minbu hosts libraries and reading campaign

 

THE ceremony to launch the “Developing Libraries and Raising Reading Habits” campaign and handover ceremony of K3 million cash assistance, copies of public science treatises, books and publications donated by State Administration Council Chairman Prime Minister Senior-General Min Aung Hlaing, his wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla and family, took place at No 1 BEHS in Minbu Township, Magway Region, yesterday.

Speaking at the event, Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn, in his capacity as Chairman of the Myanmar Libraries Development Cooperation Committee, highlighted the keynote speech of Ex-UN Secretary-General U Thant regarding the reading habit, saying today’s world is full of peace, progresses and happiness. Therefore, all citizens should have the proper knowledge to be peaceful and prosperous and develop Myanmar’s social community.

He continued that the State Head instructed him to reprint the public science treaties and donate them to the libraries. He then mentioned the salient guidance of the State Head in holding raising reading habits campaigns across the nation and urged the students to respect their teachers.

Then, he handed over K3 million, 122 copies of public science treatises Volume (VI) and (VII) and 233 copies of books and publications for libraries to the region’s social affairs minister.

He also gave five DTH receivers and 15 DVB-T2 set-top boxes for basic high and middle schools, and received K60 million for four new libraries. The Union inister and party heard the talk show and enjoyed the performance of the students.

They presented cash awards to the dance troupes. At noon, they visited Minbu Sasana Beikman to pay homage to Sayadaws and donate offertories. They also met with town elders and discussed regional development programmes. They also headed to General Hospital (Magway). They inspected the upgraded three-storey maternal and newborn babies care building, a sign of friendship between Myanmar and Japan, and the newly constructed library in Saku.
