Illegal trade eradication efforts result in K573M seizures

 

UNDER the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, legal action is being taken nationwide against illicit trading.

On 10 June, the combined on-duty team, managed by the Shan State Illegal Trade Eradication Task Force, seized two types of goods worth K2 million, including 32 pieces of smuggled Redmi phone displays, which were found piled up by the side of the road near the Sinphyu checkpoint in Muse township. This action was taken in accordance with Customs procedures.

On the same day, combined teams supervised by the Yangon Region Illegal Trade Eradication Task Force captured a Toyota Ipsum (worth approximately K45 million) carrying 18 kilogrammes of salmon fillet from Norway, valued at K3.05 million, without official documents at the Yangon International Airport. They also seized two vehicles with a trailer (estimated value of K90 million) heading to Yangon from Thamanya and Hpaan, carrying two types of goods worth K28.125 million, including 720 sets of rice cookers from China that were not declared in the Import Declaration (ID), at the Ywathagyi Dry Port, and an unregistered Honda Airwave (estimated value of K4.5 million) near Yangon-Pathein Road in Htantabin township. The action was taken under Customs procedures and the Export and Import Law.

Additionally, combined teams impounded two types of goods worth about K50.193 million, including 1,566.4 kilogrammes of Castrol engine oil that exceeded the Import Declaration (ID) from seven containers at the Myanmar Industrial Port. They also seized two vehicles (estimated value of K40 million) carrying 1,496 gallons of smuggled 92 Ron and 322 gallons of illegal premium diesel valued at K20.945 million at the Yadanabon bridge (Mandalay) combined checkpoint and two trucks (estimated value of K36 million) carrying 352 gallons of smuggled 92 Ron and 1,886 gallons of smuggled premium diesel worth K24.842 million at the Shwegyin checkpoint. The action was taken under Customs procedures and the Petroleum and Petroleum Products Law.

During inspections on 10 and 11 June, combined teams seized two trucks (worth approximately K60 million) carrying 162 cattle without official documents near Kywalpintat village in Chauk township, two engines with related materials used in illegal logging valued at K670,000 in Sinbaungwe township, and 20,490 visses of Chinese garlic worth K101.459 million at the Yadanabon bridge combined checkpoint in Sagaing township. The action was conducted under the Essential Supplies and Services Law, the Forest Law, and the Export and Import Law.

According to the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, 24 arrests (estimated value of K573.785 million) were made on 10 and 11 June.
