THE opening ceremony of the fifth Lancang-Mekong Audiovisual Week took place at Yunnan Radio and TV Station in Kunming, Yunnan Province in China, on 17 June.
The
event was attended by Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn,
ViceMinister of the National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA) Mr Yang
Guorui, CPC Yunnan Provincial Committee member and Information Minister Mrs
Zeng Yan, Deputy Governor of Yunnan Province People’s Government Mrs Yang Yang,
senior officials from China, Myanmar, Cambodia and others Mekong countries.
Officials from Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka were also present at the
launching ceremony.
Speaking
at the event, the Union Information Minister said Myanmar maintains its
relations with regional and neighbouring countries and actively participates in
regional cooperation processes based on friendship, mutual respect, peaceful
coexistence, mutual trust and equality. The country also enacts media law and
allows motion picture development activities to be freely done in order to
achieve Media Pluralism.
He
continued that the stateowned MRTV signed MoUs with PRD of Thai, NRTA of China,
China Media Group (CMG), GXRTV and Voice of Vietnam (VOV) and conducted staff
exchange programmes, high-level representatives’ exchanges and movie
broadcasting programmes.
He
then called on the attendees to ensure full participation and cooperation in
the future with mutual respect, trust, equality and understanding, as the
Lancang-Mekong countries are as close as one family living in a community and
drinking the same water from the same land.
The
officials of Lancang-Mekong countries and South Asian countries pressed the
electric button to inaugurate the fifth Lancang-Mekong Audiovisual Week.
Then,
the traditional dances, performances, living styles and regional products of
Lancang-Mekong regions, Yunnan province, South East Asia and South Asia were
explained via video clips, and the event was concluded.
The
fifth Lancang-Mekong Audiovisual Week was jointly hosted by the National Radio
and Television Administration of China, the Ministry of Information and
Communications of Vietnam, and the People’s Government of Yunnan Province,
aiming to enhance mutual understanding and trust among the peoples of China and
South and Southeast Asian countries by showcasing their unique intangible
cultural heritages. It also seeks to preserve, innovate, and develop the
civilizations of these countries through cooperation.
The
event will take place from 17 to 20 June in Kunming, Yuxi City, and other areas
of China.
