Senior General Min Aung Hlaing pays homage to foreign venerable monks bound for gala religious ceremonies

THE ceremonies to consecrate the Maravijaya Buddha Image which will be the world’s tallest sitting marble Buddha image, hoist umbrellas atop small pagodas on stone plaque chambers and share merits gained will be held on a grand scale in Dekkhinathiri Township of Nay Pyi Taw on the full moon of Second Waso 1385 ME (Dhammacakka Day), 1 August 2023.

Over 70 venerable monks from Cambodia, Thailand, Nepal, Viet Nam, Bangladesh, Russian Federation, Laos, India and Sri Lanka will attend the ceremonies.

Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and party paid homage to the monks at Jasmine Hotel yesterday.

First, State Ovadacariya Shwegyin Nikaya Sangharaja Sitagu Sayadaw Dr Bhaddanta Nyanissara and Rector of IBTMU Bhaddanta Chekinda introduced the respective monks to the Senior General, the Vice-Senior General and party.

Then, the Senior General said the attendance of the venerable monks to the ceremonies will strengthen the cooperation in religious affairs and support the propagation of the Buddhism.

Then, the foreign Sayadaws made certain words of advice describing Myanmar as the focal point of the Theravada Buddhism. Next, the Sayadaws and laypersons presented cash donations, robes and gifts of Dhamma and the Senior General accepted them. The venerable monks visited the Maravijaya Buddha image, religious buildings, Mucalinda Nagayon Pagoda and small pagodas on stone plaque chambers in the precinct of the Maravijaya Buddha Park yesterday afternoon.
