Union Health Minister addresses International Conference on Public Health, Diplomacy

UNION Minister of the Ministry of Health Dr Thet Khaing Win attended the International Conference on Public Health and Diplomacy held in Dhaka, Bangladesh yesterday.

Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, officials from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the World Health Organization’s resident representative in Bangladesh gave greeting speeches.

Union Minister Dr Thet Khaing Win, in his address, said that Myanmar is working with other countries to address global health issues. He expressed gratitude to the government of Bangladesh for giving humanitarian aid relief supplies to Rakhine State devastated by Cyclone Mocha.

Following that, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh greeted ministers from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Health from the participating countries. The Union minister said that Myanmar has made better preparations to accept refugees who are in Bangladesh.

In the afternoon, the Union Minister met Bangladeshi Minister of Health Mr Zahid Maleque at the meeting room of Pan Pacific Hotel in Dhaka and they discussed bilateral health sectors and health human resource development and the development of pharmaceuticals.

Then, the Myanmar delegation led by the Union Minister attended a dinner hosted by Dr A K Abdul Momen, Foreign Affairs Minister of Bangladesh, at State Guest House-Jamuna in Dhaka.

The sector-wise discussions of the conference took place in the afternoon, and delegates from the countries took part in the discussions of their respective sectors.

The conference was held from 11 to 12 July in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
