UNION Election Commission Chairman U Thein Soe accompanied by UEC members U Myint Oo and U Khin Maung Oo met chairpersons and members of the Kokang Democracy and Unity Party (KKDUP) and Shan State Kokang Democratic Party and inspected the parties’ processes at the local battalion guest house in Lashio yesterday morning.
The UEC chairman stressed the importance of complying with the financial regulations issued by the UEC to the registered political parties and urged them to gather party members and open party offices in a timely manner.
He ordered the party banners and flags should be under the law and instructions.
Building a strong political party is a must, he stated.
He highlighted that parties will be elected in the elections to be held with a proportional representation system, according to ethnic regions, and stressed the participation in the legislative and administrative sectors.
Considering the vote fraud that occurred in the previous election, the relevant Hluttaw election laws are being amended and enacted, he added.
After the enactment, political parties must cooperate under the law, and they will be allowed to cooperate in the process of compiling and verifying votes, he stated.
The relevant party chairpersons and members briefed on the order for their preparations in advance.
Kokang Democracy and Unity Party (KKDUP), located at No Hta/19/764, Humon Street, west of Mansu Shan Monastery, Ward 19, Quarter 12, Lashio, Shan State, has already received the right to register on 16 May 2023 under Notification No 21/2023.
Shan State Kokang Democratic Party, located at Kyishan Street, Tongchan Ward 1, Laukkai, Shan State (North), have already received the right to register on 30 May 2023 under Notification No 24/2023, as stated by the UEC.
