IT is necessary to calculate the transport of raw materials to plants and distribution of iron and steelwares produced by them by electric train in the future, said Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing on his inspection tour of the No 1 Steel Plant (Myingyan) under the Ministry of Industry in Myingyan Township of Mandalay Region yesterday morning.
Union Minister for Industry Dr Charlie Than and Deputy Minister U Yin Maung Nyunt reported on the implementation of the No 1 Steel Plant (Myingyan) as part of accomplishments of the guidance of the Senior General, running of the Melt Shop on 24 March 2023 and difficulties in implementation of the project.
In his speech, the Senior General said the government spent a large sum of foreign exchange on the import of iron and steelwares as the country needs some two million tonnes of iron and steelwares on a yearly basis. Manufacturing of steel needs electricity. Hence, ground surveys must be conducted and generating electricity through solar power should be considered. As the Melt Shop 1 has been built, implementation of the whole project must be undertaken phase by phase. This plant and the Pinpet plant will meet the local demand for iron and steelwares. Qualified human resources must be turned out for steelware production. The Senior General stressed that it is necessary to calculate the transport of raw materials to plants and the distribution of iron and steelwares produced by them by electric train in the future.
In commemoration of launching the Melt Shop 1 of the plant, the Senior General pressed the button to manufacture a steel billet and started running the melting process at the electric melt shop.
The Senior General inspected functions of the Melt Shop 1 and the production of steel billets. The Senior General put his signature on a steel billet manufactured on 24 March 2023 by the electric melting section of the Melt Shop 1 in accord with his guidance.
The Senior General and party inspected the installation of machines at Melt Shop 2 and steel sheets manufactured on 17 August 2016 and gave necessary guidance to officials.
At the mess hall of No 1 Steel Plant (Myingyan), the Senior General had lunch together with employees and gave words of encouragement for increased production of steel products.
No 1 Steel Plant (Myingyan) under the Ministry of Industry is located near Hsakha Village of Myingyan Township, Mandalay Region. It produced 2,000 tons of steel sheets from Melt Shop-2 in 2016. During the construction of the plant, although more than 90 per cent of the machinery arrived, the project tasks were halted due to decisions from the Union government’s economic committee meeting 7/2017 and meeting decisions of the 11th-day meeting of the fourth regular session of the Second Pyidaungsu Hluttaw in 2017. During the period of halting the project as of 15 March 2017, investments amounted to K403,932.882 million and the project has been completed by 66.52 per cent. During the inspection tour of the No 1 Steel Plant (Myingyan) on 24 January 2022, the Senior General gave guidance on systematic supervision for the timely completion of the plant project in building it in phases. In implementing the project tasks, Melt Shop 1 has been completed for Phase 1. At a time when Phase 1 of the Melt Shop 1 is being operated at full capacity, tasks will be continued to run Phase 2 for the Melt Shop 2. The running of the whole project will be undertaken phase by phase. The No 1 Steel Plant (Myingyan) is striving as a main driving force for the revitalization of the iron and steel industry of Myanmar and developing Myanmar’s industrial sector more in the future.
