MYANMAR delegation led by Union Minister for Legal Affairs Union Attorney-General Dr Thida Oo attended the 11th St. Petersburg International Legal Forum held in the Russian Federation from 11 to 13 May at the invitation of Russian Minister of Justice Mr Konstantin A Chuychenko.
The Ministry of Legal Affairs of Myanmar and
the Ministry of Justice of Russia made a Memorandum of Cooperation during the
period of the 11th St Petersburg International Legal Forum. The Ministry of
Legal Affairs has signed two proposed Memorandum of Cooperation with the
Russian Prosecutor-General Office and the Ministry of Justice.
During the forum, the Union minister said the
ministry is working on the 2020-2024 Strategic Plan with five objectives under
the name of "Legal Services for Justice". Of these objectives,
cooperating with world countries and international organizations is included. The
Memorandum of Cooperation will be inked between the Ministry of Legal Affairs
of Myanmar and the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation during the
period of the 11th St Petersburg International Legal Forum.
Under
the topic of Interaction between Ministries of Justice: New Trends and
Approaches, the Union minister said the ministry conducted training sessions
for legal officers and their qualifications and skills are recorded in the
digital system. Only one country cannot prevent cybercrime, digital crimes and
human trafficking but with cooperation with other countries. Therefore,
international cooperation is crucial. Despite the different legal systems,
languages, political policies and cultures, it can cooperate through domestic
laws, international agreements and justice organizations.
She
added that Myanmar follows the ASEAN Charter and works closely with ASEAN
member countries. The Ministry of Legal Affairs also participates and discusses
ASEAN legal affairs and criminal law in ASEAN Law Ministers’ Meeting (ALAWMM)
and ASEAN Senior Law Official Meeting (ASLOM). The ministry also signed a
Memorandum of Cooperation with the Russian Prosecutor-General Office and worked
together with the Prosecutor-General Office of Laos in criminal law as well as with
the Ministry of Law of Singapore.
