Illegal industrial materials, agricultural equipment, foodstuffs, consumer goods, and vehicles confiscated

 


UNDER the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, effective action is being taken to prevent illegal trade under the law. On 11 May, inspections were carried out by joint task forces under the management of the Kayin State Illegal Eradication Trade Task Force at the Thanlwain Bridge Combined Checkpoint, and 1,650 Ray power banks (approximately K31.2 million) without any official documentary evidence and a Toyota Hiace microbus carrying those items (estimated value of K15 million) heading from Myawady to Yangon were seized. On 12 May, 40 (81) electric rice cookers that were not declared in the import declaration (ID) (estimated value of K2.4 million) were impounded from a vehicle driving from Myawaddy to Yangon at the Kawkareik (Tadakyoe) combined inspection station. The action was taken under customs procedures.

Similarly, on 11 May, inspections were carried out by joint task forces under the management of the Customs Department and nabbed 3,300 silicone phone cases (estimated value of K3.3 million) with more than 61 days of arrival at the airport before obtaining an import licence from cargo containers at the import section of the Yangon Interna tional Airport. The task force also confiscated 480 toy small remote control cars without the import decleration (an approximate value of K3.12 million) from a container at the Asia World Container Inspection Station.

On 12 May at the Mayanchaung Permanent Checkpoint, a Mitsubishi Fuso truck (estimated value of K25 million) headed from Myawady to Mandalay and two new implements for four-wheel tractors (worth around K5 million that exceeded the ID, two products including 9,000 bottles of lactasoy milk (estimated value of K3.75 million) without any official document evidence, and a Sun Win bus carrying these items (an approximate value of K20 million) driving from Mawlamyine to Yangon, were confiscated. A total of 22,590 kilogrammes of ceramic mugs (an estimated value of K28,463,400) that are different from what is declared in the import declaration were also seized from a container at the Hteedan Port Terminal. A total estimated value of K88,633,400 was seized, and action is being taken in accordance with customs procedures.

In addition, a joint task force under the management of the Mon State Illegal Trade Eradication Task Force conducted inspections on 12 May and seized four products worth K9,265,000, including 1,150 bottles of M-150 drink without any official documents, and nine items, including 1,560 Jele Beautie (approximated value of K11.04 million), from two vehicles: a Golden Dragon bus (estimated value of K15 million) and a Sunlong bus (worth around K20 million), after sending the vehicles to the office of the chief of Mawlamyine Customs Department for detailed inspection. Thus, a total (estimated value of K55,305,000) was confiscated and action is being taken in accordance with customs procedures.

Therefore, 14 arrests (estimated value of K192,538,400) were made on 11 and 12 May, according to the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee.
