A meeting to reduce crop losses and increase exportation in the agricultural sector was held yesterday morning at the Department of Agriculture’s Crop Protection Division in Insein Township, Yangon Region.
Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr Aung Gyi said that the comprehensive crop protection system should be implemented based on the international crop protection standards; the agricultural products should be inspected and monitored to ensure exportation and importation; export products should comply with the standards of agreements with relevant countries; the pesticide import, package and distribution should be controlled under existing laws, rules and regulations, and officials should hold responsible and accountable in the issuance of crop pest-free certificates.
In the afternoon, the deputy minister met officials from Myanmar Fisheries Federation, Myanmar Livestock Federation, affiliated associations and private businesspersons. They discussed matters in connexion with further cooperation between the government, the private sector and entrepreneurs in the development of the meat and fish sector, the enhancement of technology and capital, the production of import-substitution finished goods, the development of domestic and international markets, the breeding and production of animals free from diseases and chemical residues and full with nutrition meeting international standards, emergency measures in case of outbreak of the disease in the aquatic and meat sector, and the production of export items to meet the standards set by relevant countries.
