A total of K138.4 million cash assistance—K200,000 each— was provided to 692 landmine victims starting from 2017-2018 FY to date, said Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Thet Thet Khine.
She said at the national level
Hybrid coordination meeting on establishment of the regional victim assistance
network jointly organized by the Rehabilitation Department and ASEAN Regional
Mine Action Center (ARMAC) held in Nay Pyi Taw on 8 July.
In her speech, the Union Minister
said Myanmar is conducting mine awareness programmes although it is not a
member of Anti-personal Mine Ban Convention. The processes are being carried
out in line with the procedures of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child
and are linked with the implementation works of the UN Convention on the Elimination
of All Forms of Discrimination against Women and UN Convention on the Rights of
Persons with Disabilities.
The Deputy Minister of SWRR and
ASEAN Regional Mine Action Center (ARMAC) Executive Director Mr Prum
Suonpraseth made greeting speeches.
The meeting was attended by
officials of ministry concerned, ARMAC and mine victims while the officials of
international organizations joined online.
