THE Myanmar Mercantile Marine (MMM) College held its 13th graduation ceremony at the college parade ground in Yangon yesterday.
The
ceremony was attended by Union Minister for Transport and Communications
Admiral Tin Aung San, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, the deputy
minister, region security and border affairs ministers, transport minister and
relevant officials.
First,
the graduate company marched and saluted the Union Minister. Then, he presented
the awards to the outstanding cadets.
He
also delivered a graduation speech adding the glorious history of MMMC during
50 years and explained job opportunities for the graduated officers by linking
with foreign shipping companies, the crucial role of maritime trade for
economic growth and the need to serve the duties on cargo ships improving the
dignity of country, citizens and college.
The
MMMC was established at Naval Training Headquarters in Seikkyi of Thanlyin, in
1963. It produced 5,513 mercantile marine graduates – 2,734 mercantile
graduates and 2,779 marine engineers so far.
Then,
the Union minister and party went to Myanma Shipyard. The managing director
explained the work of shipbuilding and related work. Afterwards, they inspected
the shipyard.
On
arrival at Locomotive Factory (Insein) and Myanma Railways Hospital (Insein),
the Union minister stressed the need to conduct maintenance works to be
complete in time, safe and secure worksite and then inspected the factory and
hospital.
He
also checked the DEMU coaches from Japan at Diesel Locomotive Factory (Insein)
and instructed the necessary things.
