Visitors flock to islands of Myeik Archipelago during Thingyan period

 


TRAVELLERS across the nation pay a visit to Myeik Archipelago, including Smart Island, during the Thingyan period by taking speed boats from Myeik jetty.

The people mainly visit Smart Island, Marcus Island, Thamee Hla, Mintha, Done Waterfall, Done Nyaungmine (Salon village), Beli Island and Kyal Leik Island. According to the travel agencies, some make a day trip while some spend the whole day there.

“There are very few visitors during the Thingyan period than the numbers of visitors before the outbreak of COVID-19. Only 30 per cent of the visitors of previous years come here, and about ten speedboats run per day during Thingyan days. Some travellers take an overnight trip,” said a travel agency.

The island’s day-trip tours can cost between K120,000 and 200,000 depending on the island while the overnight trip to Marcus Island K180,000 and K300,000 to Smart Island, Beli Island and Kyal Leik Island, according to the agencies.
