THE Government of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) donated US$200,000 to the Ministry of Border Affairs yesterday morning to promote peace, implement Myanmar’s ceasefire, and improve the lives of people living along the Sino-Myanmar border.
Union Minister for Border Affairs
Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung, Deputy Ministers Maj-Gen. Khun Thant Zaw Htoo and
Brig-Gen Phyo Thant, officials from the Ministry, Ambassador of the People’s
Republic of China to Myanmar Mr Chen Hai, and a delegation from the Embassy
attended the ceremony.
First of all, the Chinese ambassador called
for a ceasefire in Myanmar. He explained that the donations from the People’s
Republic of China were aimed at promoting peace and improving the lives of
people living along the Sino-Myanmar border.
Afterwards, the Union Minister
received US$ 200,000 donated by the Chinese Ambassador on behalf of the
Government of the People’s Republic of China and returned the certificate and
gifts.
After that, Union Minister Lt-Gen
Tun Tun Naung thanked for the donations and the two sides cordially discussed
matters related to further cooperation in human resource development activities
and the stability and development of border areas.
