IN collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts & Culture Sarawak and the Sarawak Tourism Board, and led by the Pacific-Asia Tourism Association (PATA), Virtual PATA Destination Marketing Forum-2021 is being held from 25 to 26 November (PATA) in Kuching, Sarawak Province, Malaysia.
At the invitation of the PATA,
Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism Dr Htay Aung, the Director-General of the
Ministry and officials in charge attended the video conference.
Mr Paul Pruangkarn, Director of
Communication and External Affairs from Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA)
introduced the forum at 7:30 am on the first day of the forum (yesterday).
Chairman of Sarawak Tourism Board
Mr Dennis Ngau and PATA CEO, Ms Liz Ortiguera delivered keynote speeches.
Next, Partner of Twenty 31 Consulting Inc, Mr
Greg Klassen spoke on “Moving Beyond Destination Marketing to Destination
Management”. Managing Director of Palau Visitors Authority, Mr Kadoi Ruluked
also explained “Palau's Tourism Situation on Destination Case Studies on
Sustainability from the Asia Pacific”.
BBC Travel Editor Anns Banas
discussed Crafting Stories for Destinations and Willem Niemeijer, CEO and
Co-Founder of Khiri Travel discussed “How an Accommodation Looks to Change the
World”.
Virtual tours were shown and the
first day of the forum was reviewed.
On the second day of the forum to
be held today, the Minister of Tourism of the Maldives, Dr Abdulla Mausoom will
deliver opening remarks.
Director of Tourism Marketing, Sri
Lanka Tourism Board Dushan Wickramasuriya will discuss Best Practices of
COVID-19 Recovery on the same day.
Dato Sri Haji Abdul Karim Rahaman
Hamzah, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture and Minister of Youth and Sports
Sarawak will also deliver the concluding remarks.
The Pacific-Asia Tourism
Association was formed in 1951 to work with government and tourism members to
develop tourism in the Asia-Pacific region.
The organization provides support
to member countries on tourism development issues; We share experiences and
knowledge to carry out research and tourism innovation.
At present, it has members from 82 countries.
14 international airlines; 71 hospitality associations. It is made up of 75
educational organizations and thousands of young people from around the world.
Myanmar has been a member of PATA
since 1995 and has been actively cooperating with member countries in the
development of tourism in the region.
