UEC Chairman receives US, EU, Canadian Ambassadors

UNION Election Commission Chairman U Hla Thein received Mr Scot Marciel, the Ambassador of the United States of America to Myanmar, Mr Kristian Schmidt, the EU Ambassador to Myanmar, and Ms Karen MacAuthur, the Canadian Ambassador to Myanmar, at his office in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.

During the meeting, they cordially discussed matters related to arrangements for the 2020 general elections in accordance with the five norms of free, fair, transparent, credible and reflecting the will of the people, meeting with stakeholders from multi-sectors, the compilation of nationwide voter lists, and preparing codes of conducts for political parties and candidates.

They also openly discussed matters related to arrangements for electoral awareness campaigns via Facebook, arrangements for migrant workers and displaced people not being loss their voting rights, invitation of local and international election observer teams and promoting women’s participation in the election process.
