SANDALWOOD
plants were grown near Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon to commemorate the 150th
birth anniversary of Mahatama Gandhi, nonviolent resistance leader of India.
The plantation
ceremony aims to foster friendship relations between Myanmar and India.
U Khin Maung
Htay, the member of pagoda’s board of trustees, Mr Raju Goenka, the member of
Sandalwood Plantation Organizing Committee for the birth anniversary, and its
member Retired Rector U Khin Maung Cho made speeches on the ceremony.
U Shwe, the
chairman of Sandalwood Plantation Organizing Committee, the Consul of India
Embassy in Myanmar, and U Khin Maung Htay, the member of pagoda’s board of
trustees, grew sandalwood plants.
The birthday
anniversary will be celebrated with the paper reading sessions and the writers’
talks at Shree Bhutnath Mahadev Temple on Banyardala Road in Yangon at 10 am on
21 September.
Dr Khin Maung
Aye (Maung Khin Min-Danabyu), Leidwinthar Saw Chit and Min Ko Naing will give
the talks, while Professor Dr Than Win (pseudonym Maung Than Win-Yangon
University), ABE Country Manager Mr Suren Verma, Daw Kathalin Thein (a) Kalpana
Kumari (pseudonym Injin May from Hindu Women Network) will read their papers.
