THE 15th Japan
Cup Judo Championship 2019 began yesterday at the Aung San Indoor Stadium in
Yangon.
The event has
been jointly organized by the Myanmar Judo Federation and the Japanese Embassy
in Myanmar.
The President of
the Myanmar Judo Federation, U Tun Tun Oo, and the Japanese Ambassador to
Myanmar, Mr Ichiro Maruyama, delivered speeches at the start of the
championship.
U Nyan Soe, the
head coach of the Myanmar Judo Federation, said the event aims to help teams
gain success at the 30th SEA Games, which will be held in the Philippines, and
the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Competition in Japan.
The competition
has been divided into two categories, A and B. Each category features 10
single-weight classes of men and women. The championship also has five-player
team competitions. Khata competition has also been included for the first time
in the Japan Cup this year.
A total of 179
players from 12 teams are taking part in the competition, which ends on 21
September.
