A
local currency sale of gem started at Maniyadana Jade Hall in Nay Pyi Taw
yesterday morning.
Union
Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Ohn Win came to
the event to inspect the gems and jade lots put on display and gave necessary
instructions.
In
this sales event 260 gem lots and 3108 jade lots will be put on sale under an
open tender system and to date more than 1,500 local gem merchant had
registered to attend it.
On
the first day of the event licensed or permitted sellers and buyers under the
Myanmar Gem Law and rules were present to inspect the displayed gem and jade
lots.
Myanma
Gems Enterprise General Manager U Than Zaw Oo said, “The day’s event is sale of
gem in local currency. The aim was to provide raw material for small merchants
and businesses.
The
majority of gems put on sale here are appropriate to made into beads,
wristbands and bracelets. These gems can be made to jewelries, ornaments, gifts
and souvenir items. The sales will be from 8 to 13 June.”
Gem
lots will be put on sale on 10 June and jade lots will be put on sales from 11
to 13 June through an open tender system.
Sale
of gems in local currency was started in 2011 and this is the eighth time that
it had been held.
