Hlaing Oo Maw opened the event by flagging off the 42-km Full Marathon and the
21-km Half Marathon.
Participants competed under two more categories – the 10-km
Challenge, and the 3-km Fun Run/Walk. All the competitions were flagged off at
the Thuwunna National Indoor Stadium-1.
The race lay along significant landmarks in Yangon, such as
the Botataung Pagoda, the Shwedagon Pagoda, and the Inya Lake. More than 8,000
people participated in the race. There were 660 participants from countries
such as Japan, Singapore, Thailand, China, Malaysia, France, UK, and Hong Kong.
The race ended with the Deputy Minister and other officials giving out awards.
In the men’s Full Marathon, Kenya won the first, second, and
third places. In the women’s Full Marathon, Kenya won the first and second
places, while Myanmar won the third place. The winners were awarded US$2,700,
second-place winners $1,400, and third-place winners $900.
In the men’s Half Marathon, Kenya won the first, second, and
third places. In the women’s Half Marathon, Kenya won the first, second, and
third places. The winners were given $1,600, second-place winners $900,
third-place winners $500.
In the men’s 10-km challenge, Kenya won the first and second
place, while Myanmar won the third place. In the women’s 10-km Challenge,
Myanmar won the first, second, and third places. Winners of the 10-km challenge
were awarded $800, second-place winners $400, and third-place winners $250.
