MIDWIFERY Training School, Nay Pyi Taw conferred diploma
certificates on 45 midwives who successfully completed midwifery diploma
course, at the Myanmar International Convention Centre- II (MICC-II) in Nay Pyi
Taw yesterday.
This was the 2nd graduation ceremony of the Midwifery
Training School, Nay Pyi Taw, for midwives, and was attended by Union Minister
for Health and Sports Dr. Myint Htwe.
In his speech at the ceremony, the Union Minister instructed
midwives to follow the Codes of Ethic in providing health care, and to perceive
the well-being of all people as their own, to have everlasting unity among the
mid-wives and other pledges included in the nursing oath.
The role of midwives working at the front lines of practical
health care implementation plays an equally important role with other medical
staff. There are 8,043 students studying three-year nursing diploma course, and
1,703 students studying two-year midwifery diploma course in 2018-2019 academic
year. The role and quality development of nurses and midwives are the
ministry’s priority, he added.
The ministry has done, in cooperation with World Health
Organization-WHO, preparation for developing syllabus and teaching methodology
and providing teaching materials. Midwives have opportunities to join the
nursing science course. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing Course is now
preparing to be opened soon.
Those who have obtained Bachelor of Science in Nursing can
join the Master and PhD courses, and those who have obtained Bachelor of
Science in Midwifery can join the Master of Public Health Course. Therefore,
midwives must try to upgrade their English proficiency skills to join the
Master and PhD courses, the union minister said.
He also urged midwifery training schools to improve in
theoretical and practical teaching and learning processes by maintaining the
current systematic management guidelines and disciplines of the schools.
Midwives are actively carrying out to achieve better health indexes, and their
role in health indexes, including maternal death, child mortality and public
health processes, are very important, the Union Minister said.
Afterwards, the Principal of Midwifery Training School, Nay
Pyi Taw, explained the future processes of the school, and then presented
certificates to the 45 midwives who successfully completed the course.
Also present at the meeting were Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman
Dr. Myo Aung, Ministry of Health and Sports’ Deputy Minister Dr. Mya Lay Sein
and officials, tutors and the parents of the diploma recipient midwives.
