Minister for Electricity and Energy U Win Khine and Rakhine State Chief
Minister U Nyi Pu, together with Deputy Minister Dr. Tun Naing and Rakhine
State Minister for Electricity, Industry and Transport, inspected the
production and distribution of Shwe Natural Gas Project’s Rakhine Offshore
Blocks A-1 and A-3, west of Myanmar, on 5 May.
Firstly,
officials from the project reported to the union minister on the exploration,
production, distribution and the export of gas and local distribution. They
also presented plans to help develop the social economy of the local people.
Managing Director of Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise U Myo Myint Oo gave a
supplementary report.
Union
minister and State Chief Minister looked into the requirements and made
arrangements to generate job opportunities for local people, transfer
technology, share experiences and ensure a safe and working environment.
The
union minister viewed the production and distribution of gas and other
functions from the control room.
The
Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise of Ministry of Electricity and Energy, Daewoo
International Corporation, ONGC Videsh Ltd, GAIL (India) Ltd and Korea Gas
Corporation signed an agreement with China National United Oil Corporation to
export gas from Shwe natural gas field to China on 24 December 2008. The gas
produced from the project is distributed for domestic consumption and 400
million cubic feet per day was exported to China in pipelines having a diameter
of 40 feet.
