The
three-day Youth All-round Development Festival displayed rare and famous books
of the 1950s at a special booth.
“The
books included over 100 works of prominent writers, and types of books were
magazines, treatises and books on Myanmar literature, world affairs, culture,
science, social field, transport and many others. They are actually rare to
find anywhere,” said the librarian of the Sarpay Beikman.
Some
of the rare books are not included the works to be republished by the Sarpay
Beikman yet. The display also included papers on various subjects including
patriotism, translated works, classics, reference literature, general
knowledge, novels, children’s literature, travelogue.
“Book
lovers can read those works at Sarpay Beikman Library from 10 am to 4 pm on
weekdays and till noon on Saturdays,” said the librarian. The festival also
opened the bookshop of the News and Periodicals Enterprise of the Ministry of
Information.
“We
are selling some of the books at 50% discount. Most of the youths buy books on
English literature and mathematical quiz. They are also interested in reference
books on translation, Myanmar encyclopedia and books on stone inscriptions”,
said the in-charge of the store.
The
final day of the festival saw more bookworms visiting the shop.
