President hosts dinner for Viet Nam Communist Party General Secretary

President U Htin Kyaw and the First Lady hosted a dinner to honour the visiting General Secretary, Communist Party of Viet Nam’s Central Committee (CPVCC) Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong at the Presidential Palace yesterday evening.

The dinner was attended by President U Htin Kyaw and First Lady Daw Su Su Lwin, State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, Vice President U Myint Swe and wife Daw Khin Thet Htay, Vice President U Henry Van Thio, Union Ministers, Deputy Ministers and officials.
Before the dinner, the national band played the national anthems of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam and thr Republic of the Union of Myanmar.
At the dinner, President U Htin Kyaw and General Secretary of CPVCC Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong gave speeches of greetings and then had dinner together.
In his speech, President U Htin Kyaw said during the last four decades Viet Nam has always been a trusted friend of Myanmar and assisted Myanmar in the international arena. This was much appreciated and was expected to be continued. Matters of mutual benefit were discussed during his visit to Viet Nam and the General Secretary’s current visit was indeed a historic one. Under the leadership of the General Secretary, Viet Nam was believed to have become the latest progressing country in the South East Asia region. It was firmly believed that there would be more opportunities for cooperation between the two countries and Viet Nam was urged to continue the cooperation and assistance in the government and private sectors. He added that in addition to increasing the bilateral friendly relationship, Myanmar would closely cooperate with Viet Nam to develop international peace, stability and development. General Secretary of CPVCC Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong in return thanked the warm welcome of the Myanmar people and spoke about his belief in Myanmar government’s ability to spur future development of Myanmar. He said Viet Nam would cooperate in many sectors for the development of Myanmar based on mutual understanding and this cooperation was incorporated as a priority in Viet Nam’s foreign policy. Viet Nam planned to invest in the Myanmar trading sector and development would be achieved through people-to-people relations. He also added that the two countries would cooperate in regional stability, peace and development.
After the dinner, General Secretary of the CPVCC Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong and party were entertained with songs and dances by artists from the Department of Fine Arts.
