Concerted
efforts are being exerted to complete the planning of a Myanmar agricultural
development strategy with the assistance of Asia Development Bank (ADB), the
Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and the Livelihoods and Food Security
Trust Fund (LIFT), it is learnt.
The strategy is
currently being drawn up on the basis of the Second five-year National
Development Plan and will be released to the public through workshops held in
May and June in 17 places in the regions and states in order to receive public
opinion.
The agriculture
development strategy highlights the cooperation between private and public
sectors and the farmers to boost production and attain market shares in the
highly competitive international market.
The Agriculture
Master Plan is being drawn up with the help of local and foreign experts in
order to produce pedigree crops, provide quality fertilizer, practice Good
Agriculture Practice (GAP), increase awareness of pesticide use to farmers,
provide access to loans, produce quality food and penetrate additional
international markets, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and
Irrigation.
The
aforementioned department will establish a public-private partnership with a
view to reducing cultivation costs and boosting the production rate, it is
learnt.
