The opening
ceremony of the 9th meeting of The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral
Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Sub group on Anti-money Laundering
and Combating the Financing of Terrorism was held at Novotel Hotel in Yangon
yesterday morning.
Present at the meeting were Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Maj-Gen Aung Soe, Yangon Region Advocate General U Han Htoo, the Secretary of Yangon Region government, the Secretary General of BIMSTEC Mr. Sumith Nakandala and forty representatives from seven BIMSTEC countries.
During the meeting, Maj-Gen Aung Soe and Mr. Sumith Nakandala delivered speeches. The meeting will be continued today and discussion topics will include matters of membership countries, evaluation for the better cooperation in combating the financing of terrorism, the cyber threat in the financial sector of BIMSTEC, development of human resources to fight the illicit financial flow and preventing financing of terrorism, and the issues on cooperation between international organizations, improving the legal framework of the membership countries and other future procedures.
