The
Peace Commission and Delegation for Political Negotiation (DPN) meet for the third
time at the National reconciliation and peace center in Yangon on Wednesday.
DPN, as a negotiating body for the United Nationalities Federal Council (UNFC)
comprised with seven armed groups which did not sign last year’s nationwide
ceasefire agreement. The meeting focused on unfinished discussions from the
last meeting, where the two sides negotiated on eight points demanded by UNFC.
In October, the UNFC made an 8-point proposal to review the framework for
political dialogue, and it includes participation of international figures in
forming a military joint monitoring committee (JMC). The committee is currently
comprised of government and EAO representatives. The demands also include
agreement on military codes of conducts and so on. UNFC is expected to sign the
NCA after a mutual agreement is made. The representatives from the government,
Hluttaw, ethnic armed organizations, political parties and civil societys also
attended the meeting which will continue on Thursday.
