FOR the first time in the history of Myanma Railways, the Operating Department of Myanma Railways is making arrangements to assign female locomotive drivers to trains running on the Yangon Circular Railway line.
Currently,
five women who hold AGTI diplomas from the Nationalities Youth Resource
Development Degree College have been trained and produced as train drivers.
These five
women completed theoretical and practical locomotive driving courses at the
Central Transport and Communications School in Meiktila. During their 29-week
training period, they successfully passed practical shunt-driving operations,
track observation, trial driving, practical driving examinations, and
interviews. They are currently undergoing practical training as assistant
locomotive drivers.
Five women
locomotive drivers are set to take charge of DEMU and RBE trains on the Yangon
Circular Line in the coming days.
