NCA 11th Anniversary Peace & Development Workshop concludes in Nay Pyi Taw

A two-day workshop marking the 11th anniversary of the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA), titled “From Peace and Social Harmony Towards Development”, concluded at the Horizon Lake View Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw. The event brought together 160 participants, including Union Minister for Defence and National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee (NSPNC) Chairman Lt-Gen Yar Pyae, NSPNC Secretary Lt-Gen Min Naing, retired military officers, lawmakers, representatives from political parties and NCA-signatory ethnic armed organizations, academics, and media.

On the second day, attendees divided into two thematic panels to address political and economic issues. The political sector panel, chaired by Lt-Gen Aye Win (Retd) and led by speakers Dr M Kawng La and Dr Thuta Aung, explored practical cooperation for peace, stability, and social harmony in conflict-affected areas. Simultaneously, the economic sector panel, chaired by Maj-Gen Soe Naing Oo (Retd) with lead speakers Dr Zaw Oo and Dr Nyo Nyo Thin, focused on linking peace with regional economic development, sustainable livelihoods, and the effective delivery of humanitarian aid.

During the afternoon closing ceremony, NSPNC Secretary Lt-Gen Min Naing summarized the key recommendations from the two-day event. These included combining topdown and bottom-up approaches under a “Multiple Entry, One Process” framework, utilizing multi-level dialogue and community-led mediation, and integrating humanitarian aid with long-term livelihood stability and regional economic development.

Following words of appreciation from ethnic political party representatives and Kayin leader Saw Mutu Sae Poe, NSPNC Chairman Lt-Gen Yar Pyae delivered the closing address. He emphasized the shared goal of building a union based on democracy and federalism through a unified peace process. He also highlighted the need for the legal management of natural resources, warned that illicit trade undermines peace, and urged the media to play a constructive role in promoting national stability and development.
