Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Hsan Oo received Mr Jacob Sebastian Brunner, Head of the Lower Mekong Sub-Region of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), at the ministry’s Office 28 in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning.
The Union minister said Myanmar joined IUCN as a member country in 2017 and has been making continuous efforts to promote cooperation that would produce positive results. He said the country is working to formulate key national frameworks for nature conservation and sustainable development, including a National Mangrove Action Plan, a National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan, and a National Integrated Coastal Resources Management Programme.
They also discussed biodiversity and sustainable natural resource conservation, protected areas, mangrove conservation and the promotion of cooperation in environmental conservation in Myanmar.
Deputy Minister Dr Thaung Naing Oo, the director-general of the Forest Department, and relevant officials also attended the meeting.
