Releasing hot-air balloons, a traditional cultural heritage of Myanmar, is held annually in the country. Preparations and trial launches are currently under way for the first-ever release of 30,000 hot-air balloons in the Bagan Ancient Cultural Zone during the upcoming Thadingyut Festival.
The event will be held
during the Thadingyut Festival, which marks the beginning of the tourist
season, to pay homage to the Buddha by releasing 30,000 hot-air balloons for
the first time and to allow local and foreign visitors to enjoy the beauty of
Bagan on the full-moon night of Thadingyut.
The two-foot-long
hot-air balloons, made of plastic and paper, will be released from three
locations: Alodawpyae Pagoda, Dhammayangyi Temple and Sunset Mound. Photography
enthusiasts, painters, landscape photographers and online media outlets from
various parts of the country are also expected to attend the event.
The balloons will be
released at 7 pm on the 14th waxing day (the eve of the full moon) and the
full-moon day. In addition to a food fair featuring upcountry foods and snacks
sold from bullock carts, the relevant departments are making arrangements to hold
the Thadingyut Festival with various other programmes.
