U Tin Aung San, National Security Adviser and Union Minister at the President’s Office, led a Myanmar delegation to India from 13 to 17 July to attend the 5th BIMSTEC National Security Chiefs’ Meeting held in New Delhi. The delegation returned to Yangon yesterday evening, where they were welcomed back at Yangon International Airport by Yangon Region ministers and officials from the Embassy of India to Myanmar.
On 16 July,
the Union minister attended the 5th BIMSTEC National Security Chiefs’ Meeting
and discussed cooperation in addressing security challenges, including
counter-terrorism and transnational crime prevention, maritime security,
cybersecurity, food security, energy security and other related security
issues.
On the
evening of 15 July, the Union minister joined the dinner event hosted by Indian
National Security Advisor Mr Ajit Doval.
During the
visit from 15 to 16 July, the Union minister met with Indian National Security
Advisor Mr Ajit Doval, Sri Lanka’s Defence Secretary Mr Sampath Thuyacontha,
Secretary-General of Thailand’s National Security Council Mr Chatchai Bangchuad
and Defence Adviser to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Dr AKM Shamsul Islam,
and exchanged views on bilateral security cooperation, border security,
boundary affairs, illegal migration, information exchange, humanitarian
assistance, technology exchange, bilateral trade and border trade, and
cooperation across various sectors.
The
high-level gathering brought together delegates from the seven member nations
of the BIMSTEC.
