Yangon Region achieved a 49.48 per cent pass rate in the 2026 matriculation examination, with 23,203 of 46,889 candidates passing the exam, the results of which were released simultaneously at 103 examination centres across the region yesterday morning.

Education Office Director Daw San San Wai said the pass rate had fallen by four
percentage points compared with last year but pledged to improve results in the
2027 examination through targeted measures to raise academic standards.
Among
Yangon’s townships, Kamayut Township recorded the highest pass rate at 78.42
per cent, followed by Lanmadaw Township with 75.05 per cent and Bahan Township
with 67.75 per cent.
At No 6 Basic
Education High School in Botahtaung Township, 150 of 289 candidates passed,
giving the school a 51.9 per cent success rate. Headmistress Daw Thin Thin Aung
said the result marked an improvement on last year and that the school would
continue strengthening teaching to achieve even better results in 2027.
Education
officials said support teams would visit lower-performing schools during the
2026-2027 academic year to identify shortcomings and provide assistance. The
regional education office also plans to work with universities to deliver
additional training for teachers as part of efforts to improve future
matriculation results
