Union Minister for Education Dr Chaw Chaw Sein received Mr Yasumasa Kimura, Resident Representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Myanmar, at the Ministry of Education in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
The two sides
held open and cordial discussions on cooperation in further developing the
basic education sector and implementing future priority programmes. They also
discussed support for early childhood care and development training, English
language teaching programmes, and school management training aimed at enhancing
the capacities of teachers and headteachers.
The
discussions further covered comparative studies of education systems in
regional countries through the Southeast Asia Primary Learning Metrics
(SEA-PLM) programme, continued collaboration on research relating to literacy
rates and gender disparities, educational opportunities and qualification
recognition for out-of-school children, and measures to ensure that schools
provide safe and secure environments for children.
Deputy
Minister U Nay Myo Hlaing, directors-general and other officials also attended
the meeting.
