The Haka-Thantlang Road in Chin State has been reopened after security forces regained control of the route following security operations against CNF and CDF insurgent groups.
Authorities
said insurgents had previously disrupted transport links, damaged public
infrastructure and hindered rehabilitation efforts in the area, causing delays
to the movement of goods and reconstruction materials.
Following the
recapture of Thantlang in October 2023, efforts were made to restore stability
and support regional recovery. However, continued disruptions along transport
routes affected trade and reconstruction activities.
Security
forces launched security activities along the Hakha–Thantlang corridor on 4
June. During the operation, they regained control of Point 1921 on 6 June,
Point 2069 on 7 June and Tower Hill Camp on 8 June before securing the entire
route on the evening of 9 June.
With the road
reopened, cargo vehicles and travellers can once again use the route, improving
the flow of goods and easing transportation difficulties in the region.
Authorities
said mine-clearance activities and assistance for displaced residents returning
to their communities are also under way, while rehabilitation and development
projects will continue with support from the government and local communities.
