Gangaw school shooting leaves Grade 11 student injured

A Grade 11 student was injured after unidentified armed attackers reportedly opened fire on people taking part in a school cleaning and beautification activity at Basic Education High School (Kyaw) in Kyaw, Gangaw District.

Authorities said the incident occurred yesterday morning when teachers, students and residents were participating in a community service activity within the school compound. The attackers allegedly fired small arms from a railway junction about 220 metres southeast of the school.

A Grade 11 student sustained gunshot wounds to the right side of the chest and back, officials said. Security forces transported the injured student to a local military medical facility, where he is receiving treatment.

Officials further stated that the attackers targeted a civilian location and disrupted educational activities intended to support school development. They added that investigations are underway to identify and arrest those responsible, with security forces coordinating with residents.
