AUTHORITIES have detained 12 foreign nationals involved in telecom fraud and other criminal activities.
The detainees included six nationals from Ethiopia, three from India, two from China, and one from Kenya, all of whom had entered the areas around Myawady illegally. They are currently under investigation pending deportation.
From 30 January 2025 to 30 May 2026, a total of 14,701 illegal foreign entrants were detained in Myawady Township. Of these, 13,521 individuals have been systematically deported to their respective countries via Thailand in accordance with legal procedures. A total of 662 individuals have been prosecuted under immigration and drug-related laws, while the remaining 518 are awaiting deportation and are being properly accommodated and managed.
The government continues to cooperate actively with neighbouring countries, regional partners, and international organizations to combat online scam operations, identify and take action against those involved, and facilitate the repatriation of trafficked and distressed foreign nationals as swiftly as possible.
