Under the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, relevant departments are taking effective action in accordance with the law to prevent and suppress illegal trade across the country.
The combined inspection
teams under the management of the Bago Region Illegal Trade Eradication Task
Force conducted inspections on 9 and 10 February. The teams seized illegal teak
of 59.645 tonnes and timbers of 8.761 tonnes (estimate worth of K76.7 million)
in Ottwin and Thayawady townships. The action was taken under the Forest Law.
In Ayeyawady Region,
the combined on-duty teams conducted the inspections on 6 February. The
inspection team seized two unregistered motorbikes worth K9.5 million in
Hinthada and Myaungmya townships. The other inspection team confiscated illegal
timbers valued at K70,320 in Myaukmya Township. The actions were taken under
the Export and Import Law and the Forest Law.
Between 6 and 10
February, a further nine cases were seized nationwide, with a combined
estimated value of K86.27 million.
