Myanma Port Authority Museum opens in Yangon

 


UNION Minister for Transport and Communications U Mya Tun Oo, accompanied by Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein and relevant officials, attended the opening ceremony of the Myanma Port Authority Museum in Yangon yesterday.

Speaking at the event, the Union minister stated that the Myanma Port Authority emerged alongside the establishment of Yangon and is a major institution with a long history. In accordance with the economic policy of the country, it has continuously implemented port development activities in line with the government and the people.

He continued that, as the historical images and records accumulated over time have now been compiled and presented in the form of an exhibition, visitors will be able to gain an understanding of the entire development history of the Myanma Port Authority within a short time.

Although history exists, it becomes meaningless if it is not properly recorded and preserved, and scholars stated that history represents reality, while economics is an interpretation. Studying history helps provide perspectives for the future. He stressed that the open exhibition will serve as a valuable legacy for future generations. After the ceremonial procedures, the Union minister and party observed the museum.

The Union minister and party also inspected the installation of a weight bridge and maintenance work at Sule jetty, Sapachaung in Dala, jetties along the Twantay Canal, the Twantay canal project to be conducted by the Directorate of Water Resources and Improvement of River Systems, the 3.5-mile-long Twantay Canal and the Latpangon checkpoint.

During the tour, the Union minister stressed the need to meet the target, repair the staff housing and accelerate the Twantay canal development project that is being conducted with the loan of Korea.
