Marking the 2765 Kayin Era, the Kayin New Year festival was held at the Thiri Ground in Hpa-an yesterday.
At the event, the attendees saluted the National Flag of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, the Kayin national flag, and the fallen heroes.
After the ceremonial procedures, the patron of the event read out the message sent by Acting President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and State Security and Peace Commission Chairman Senior General Thadoe Maha Thray Sithu Thadoe Thiri Thudhamma Min Aung Hlaing to the occasion, whereas the Kayin State Ethnic Affairs minister read the message sent by Union Minister for Border Affairs and for Ethnic Affairs Lt-Gen Yar Pyae.
The young Kayin people of the Kayin Literature and Culture Association briefed on the history of Kayin National Day in Myanmar, as well as the Poe Kayin and Sakaw Kayin languages. The MC presented biographies of elderly Kayin people, and officials presented gifts to the elderly.
State Chief Minister U Saw Myint Oo and officials cut the ceremonial ribbon to inaugurate the ceremony and released white doves representing peace.
The ceremony was held in accordance with the traditions of the Kayin people.
After the ceremony, the chief minister and party observed the cultural booths of Myanmar, Mon, Shan, Pa-O and Kayin ethnics, including the displays of departments, local products of MSMEs.
