Govt intensifies crackdown on telecom fraud, demolishing 10 illegal gambling sites

THE Myanmar government has intensified efforts to combat online gambling in the KK Park and Shwe Kokko areas. Yesterday, authorities demolished ten additional illegal buildings used for online gambling operations in Myawaddy– Maethawtalay (KK Park), including one four-storey building, one three-storey building, and eight two-storey structures. These demolitions are part of a larger crackdown, which has already seen 361 out of 635 illegal buildings systematically destroyed within KK Park. Confiscated materials and equipment used for online gambling were also burned to prevent further misuse.

In addition, four Thai nationals detained for involvement in illegal gambling activities were repatriated through the Myanmar–Thailand Friendship Bridge No. 2 in accordance with legal procedures, while efforts continue to return the remaining foreign detainees to their respective countries. Security forces, administrative bodies, and local authorities have collaborated to ensure that these illegal operations do not resume.

Since 8 December, joint teams have also inspected 132 further buildings in Myawaddy and the surrounding areas, confirming that no illegal foreign residents or online gambling activities were found. The government has emphasised that combating online gambling is a national duty, and Myanmar will continue to coordinate with neighbouring countries to ensure such operations cannot take root within the country. These measures underscore the authorities’ commitment to upholding law and order and safeguarding public safety.
