Various organizations, in coordination with local communities, continue implementing vigorous rehabilitation operations in areas affected by the recent major earthquake in Mandalay Region.
Lt-Gen Thet Pon from the Office of
the Commander-in-Chief (Army), accompanied by officials, inspected recovery
efforts in Sagaing Region. They visited Swan Oo Pon Nya Shin Pagoda and Laykyun
Mhan Aung Pagoda, which sustained significant damage during the earthquake.
Local communities and organizations worked together to completely clear debris
from the religious sites. Soil testing for structural stability is being
carried out in preparation for the expansion of the pagoda platform, and
comprehensive reconstruction of the pagoda compound is underway. Restoration
work also includes beautification and rebuilding in line with traditional
religious standards.
The inspection team also observed the
removal of earthquake debris from monastic schools and religious buildings,
including monasteries and nunneries in Sagaing, and assessed the ongoing
reconstruction of damaged residential buildings. Heavy machinery is being used
to accelerate clearing operations. Energy drinks were distributed to workers on
site, and necessary coordination was made with responsible personnel.
Later, Lt-Gen Thet Pon and officials
visited Sagaing Education College, where they inspected the demolition and
clearance of school buildings damaged by the earthquake and coordinated
required measures with relevant authorities.
Likewise, Lt-Gen Soe Tint Naing and
officials from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) conducted field
inspections in Mandalay. In Chanmyathazi Township, they observed the clearance
of earthquake-damaged structures at Shansu Seebabi Monastery and the main
prayer hall of the Sasana Jotikaron Monastery in Kyunlon Ooshaung Ward.
Tatmadaw members and operators used heavy machinery to ensure the swift removal
of debris.
They also inspected the demolition of
unsafe buildings in Kanthaya Ward and Myothit Ward 3 in Chanmyathazi Township,
where clearing operations are progressing with the use of heavy machinery.
Coordination was made to meet further requirements, and safety measures at the
sites were discussed with relevant officials.
