Myanmar’s authorities have detained 799 foreign nationals who illegally entered the country, with 61 individuals already repatriated while efforts are underway to transfer the remaining 738.
These
individuals entered Myanmar through border routes after transiting via
neighbouring countries, including Thailand. They were found engaging in illegal
online gambling, telecom fraud and other criminal activities in the Shwe Kokko,
and KK Park of Myawady in Kayin State.
Authorities
apprehended a total of 799 foreign nationals between 30 January and 15
February.
Among them, 61
individuals were repatriated to Thailand on 31 January 2025 following legal
procedures. A total of 69 individuals were identified and detained on 11
February, followed by 200 more on 14 February and another 469 on 15 February,
bringing the total to 738. Authorities have completed the necessary
documentation and personal records for their repatriation to their respective
countries.
The detained
individuals include nationals from China, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Ethiopia,
Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, Vietnam, Uganda, Thailand and Chinese Taipei.
Myanmar
continues to cooperate with relevant countries to expedite the investigation
and lawful repatriation of foreign nationals involved in illegal activities in
the Myawady, Shwe Kokko and KK Park areas.
