Myanmar National Human Rights Commission Chairman U Paw Lwin Sein attended the 29th annual meeting of the Asia-Pacific Forum (APF), held on 24 and 25 September in Bangkok, Thailand.
The meeting was
attended by representatives from human rights organizations in 26 member
countries of the Asia-Pacific Forum (APF) of National Human Rights
Institutions, as well as representatives from the Human Rights Commissions of
the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Chinese Taipei, and Pakistan. Observers
included representatives from the Global Alliance of National Human Rights
Institutions, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the
United Nations Development Programme.
On the first day
of the meeting, participants discussed the forum’s annual reporting activities,
ongoing issues for the forum, and cooperation between the forum and civil
society organizations.
On the second
day, representatives and observers from member countries continued their
discussions on human rights topics such as gender equality, environmental
conservation, climate change and related rights issues, and the rights of human
rights defenders.
During the
programme, the chairman of the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission spoke
about the commission’s activities related to gender equality and the country’s
participation in women’s affairs.
Following this,
Commission Office Director U Zeyar Lin attended the “Asia-Pacific Senior
Officials Network Meeting,” which was held concurrently with the forum’s annual
meeting. He discussed capacity-building issues for the staff of the Myanmar
National Human Rights Commission and answered questions from attendees. The
annual meeting concluded on the evening of 25 September.
On 26 September,
the chairman of the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission and the delegation
returned to Yangon by flight.
