THE opening ceremony of the fourth China-ASEAN Health Cooperation Forum (Towards A Health Silk Road) in Nanning, People’s Republic of China, was held yesterday morning through a hybrid method.
At the ceremony,
the People’s Republic of China vice governor of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous
Region, the deputy minister of the National Health Commission of China,
Ministers of Health from the ASEAN Member States, the secretary-general of
the ASEAN, the deputy director-general of the WHO Regional Office for the Western
Pacific delivered keynote speeches.
At the opening
ceremony, Union Minister for Health Dr Thet Khaing Win delivered a video
keynote speech at the forum on public health from ASEAN member countries and
China. He said he was delighted to see the cooperation among the medical
professionals in their respective specialities.
“The cooperation of
not only the region but also the world to strengthen the health infrastructure
will strengthen the response to public health threats.
Myanmar is trying
to prevent, control and treat the COVID-19 epidemic, and has received a lot
of medical supplies, including COVID-19 vaccines, from the neighbouring
country, the People’s Republic of China,” he added.
If the Health Silk
Road can be established and implemented through the cooperation of China and
ASEAN member countries, health knowledge, information, sharing experiences in
real-time, strengthening the public health system and cooperation in science
and technology will be improved.
Among the many
cooperation activities between China and Myanmar, one important opportunity is
the construction of the Myanmar Centre for Prevention and Control of
Infectious Diseases, which is currently under construction, he said.
China and ASEAN
countries have the same goals and efforts have been carried out with good
results. He said that he believes that, in the future, more ambitious
programmes and deeper relations will be built.
After that,
officials approved the fourth China-ASEAN Health Cooperation Forum Joint Declaration.
Maternal
and child health, hospital management, sub-forums such as dental health
forums, and forums on the prevention and control of infectious diseases will
be held from 14 to 16 September on a daily basis, and officials from the Department
of Public Health, will attend the forums according to the relevant subjects.
